Ashwagandha? Rose? Red Walnut Butter = Red walnuts + Ashwaganda root + Red Rose Petals + Honey
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been used in Ayurvedic, and Unani medicine for thousands of years. It has been used for anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, but is mainly used as an adaptogen which assists the body is overcoming the physical and emotional side effects of stress. In one clinical trial 300 mg of Ashwagandha root extract was given twice a day for 60 days, serum cortisol levels were reduced by 27.9% and symptoms of perceived stress were improved by 44%.
Sometimes we are unprepared for times of physical or emotional stress. Whether i anticipate a stressful event or not, I like to make this walnut butter and store it in the fridge. At least I know when I need it, I have something to snack on throughout the day when I do not feel like I can properly nourish myself. I can tell you, I have been through many jars of this walnut butter, I can throughly attest to the magic of ashwagandha!
In a food processor, I blend the walnuts until they start to make a butter (between 5-10 mins). I then add the ashwagandha power, powered rose petals, and honey in the last minute until they are fully incorporated. I eat it with with apples, on toast, with celery, with carrots, on pancakes, savory dishes and honestly, with just about anything.
